The steel extrusions are shot blasted and primed prior to fabrication to remove mill scale and ensure a good surface for paint adhesion.
Axles are used well within their design capacity, not on the limit. All low-loader trailers are fitted with four-spring suspension.
The side rave is pressed steel with keyhole chain securing points.
The standard trailer width is 2500mm (approximately 8’2”).
The trailers are fitted with a commercial road lighting system and the wiring is connected at waterproof junction boxes. The lights are all LED including an LED flashing warning light. There is a stalk fitted at the front of the trailer to keep electric and braking cables tidy and away from the drawbar and dirt. The electric connection to the tractor is a removable electric coil.
Trailers are finished with 120 microns of paint and applied with an electrostatic system to ensure complete coverage. The top coat is a hard-wearing two-pack acrylic high gloss paint.
Standard features include: 600mm headboard, ratchet-style park brake, keyhole chain securing points, LED commercial road lighting system with front and side marker lights, stop/tail lights and flashing warning light, rear light guards, hydraulic braking system, and spray suppression flaps.

Introducing the all-new Stewart VT5500, the most versatile Farm Trailer in the Industry! At 5.5m body standard, the Stewart VT5500 is the most versatile farm trailer on the market, with 4 different side configurations so you can haul exactly what you need. 4 different configurations allows you to quickly switch between grain, rock, gravel, and silage sides to suit our customers' changing demands.
The VT5500/VT6100 is a Scottish-made Stewart trailer tailored specifically for the Australian market. The folks at Armour Group met with our large contracting clients and asked them about their ideal trailer requirements. Then they set about making it a reality.
Feedback was consistent, notably a long deck, a fixed headboard, the ability to add a bale extension plus gravel sides and a silage bin – all contributing to an incredibly versatile trailer. The name directly corresponds to the length of the trailer. The VT5500 trailer is 5.5 metres long and the VT6100 is 6.1 metres long.
Stewart Trailers' motto is 'Bigger, stronger, tougher', and the VT5500/VT6100 – at first glance – certainly embodies that: The sloping narrow drawbar is particularly excellent for tight turning.
For comfort, two large springs handle the drawbar suspension and work effectively to absorb both the shunting and pitching of a fully-loaded trailer.
The tucked inside tipping chassis contributes to the stability of the trailer on hills in two main ways:
The entire main deck is Hardox, a highly durable metal. Given that these trailers endure heavy use from diggers and large chunks of metal being dropped, this is an important feature. Additionally, the closely spaced cross members underneath the deck add strength, so if a hard rock does hit the deck, the Hardox will protect, and the reinforced understructure will prevent dents and waving in the deck, thereby avoiding strength loss.
The two-piece removable gravel sides, also constructed of Hardox steel, come equipped with their own hydraulically operated high lift tailgate. The sides are designed to form a close fitting connection with the trailer sides and floor, utilising heavy-duty gussets and reinforcements to accommodate loads of up to 16 tons. The steep tipping angle and tall tailgate opening are features that deliver notable benefits.

Designed and built in Scotland for Australia, the all new Stewart ‘Edge’ Drop Sided Tipping trailers are built for you. Featuring full Hardox® body and sides meaning the trailer is very strong, protected from rock damage and lighter in overall tare weight without sacrificing any strength. Other features such as dual axle hydraulic breaks and LED road lighting on the larger models means road towing is completely legal behind agricultural vehicles and our ADR axles are built to take it.
The EDGE 12 Trailer features a sprung drawbar. This feature prevents over loading the drawbar on the tug tractor and provides optimum comfort for the operators. Designed so if filled to capacity evenly in the loading area there is no more than 3 tonne of down-pressure on the towing vehicle's drawbar.
All EDGE trailers feature the 3-way tailgate design which enables any load to be emptied or distributed via the rear tailgate. All sides are able to be removed, easily converting these trailers into a formidable flatbed trailer.
Chrome plated rams are a standard feature, ensuring long life without any fear of rust damage. The EDGE 8 & 12 models feature dual lift rams ensuring even lifting across the chassis and no chance of any body twisting or damage to the chassis.
All trailers are painted with 2-pack acrylic gloss paint to give an impressive fit and finish which complements the quality of the build and the pride of the Scottish owners!
